Real Freedom

Everything in the universe wants to go towards freedom. A thief steals to free himself from poverty. A saint meditates to free himself from attacghments, so on..

Well,, freedom means different things to different people. For a child, freedom could be a room full of chocolates. A young man thinks that he is in freedom when he may be able to enjoy with lot of women, and so on.. But, for a old man, it would be very less so. So, it appears that the conception of freedom keeps changing with age. So, is there nothing called true freedom, the freedom which does not change with time or location ?

Again and again we think that we are going towards freedom, but only till we discover some kind of bondage. One marries with great interest, to be free from solitude, but once is he is free from solitude, he feels another bondage - 'his very own wife', and the marriage ends in a divorce. So it was not real freedom which he craved for, but he was under delusion.

So, what is real freedom ? I feel that one can be truly free only when he has gained mastery over himself, total knowledge about himself. he is free only when he is not bound by his senses, money, etc. Freedom is attained when he has no desires, no attachments to any place, subject, person, book, food, etc etc anything! he does not limit himself to one particular way of life. He can do whatever he wants.. He has no obligation to any person, place etc..Basically any kind of possession is a bondage. If ignorance is a iron chain, knowledge is a gold chain - bothe being causes of bondage.

Hence it can be understood that renunciation alone is the way to true freedom. And renunciation is the core idea of vedanta. To quote from the swami vivekananda's words 'Everything is fraught with fear.. Renunciation alone is fearless!'

So, brothers and sisters, lets seek for true freedom and shatter every form of delusion! Om Tat Sat.
